Most people ask, how much does it cost to rewire a house? Or how much does it cost to rewire a 3 bedroom house? or maybe, How much does it cost to rewire a 2 bedroom house? It is not as simple as this…
For example, a 3 bedroom house rewire, with 35 downlights, 4 lights. 6 internet points, 50 sockets, 20 switches and underfloor heating points, external garage, loft conversion… Is probably going to cost more than a 5 bedroom house with 2 sockets in each room a switch and a single light fitting. House size is irrelevant when you start to think about what is involved! It is more about the number of points required… The other consideration, is whether the house is empty, or is it furnished or occupied?
From an electricians point of view, this means is it a full 8 hr working day being able to get stuck into the task? Or 6 hrs, because we have to get the house powered up again, because you are coming home. Also having to work around your furniture? This is obviously going to take longer and will cost more.

What does a house rewire involve?
A house rewire involves installing new sockets, switches, lights, earthing requirements and your new fuse box. To meet the current 18th edition of the electrical rewiring regulations.
As house rewire specialists, the way we approach and carry out our rewires is quite unique. Frequently Walls and plaster, must be channelled into, to install the new wiring. Vast experience allows us to see and think, how to install in a way to minimise the disruption.
We are equipped with the latest tools and machinery, specifically designed for our small, niche house rewiring industry. With the ability to quickly get a great feel for your property. The problems that can and can’t be seen. The layout of things, behind the scene, like changes of joist direction, where cavities and helpful gaps exist. Where tubes or capping maybe re used, that are installed behind your walls already. In short we can quickly take all the pieces of the jigsaw and put things together, without the picture on the box.
Even with the best dust extraction equipment and tools available, rewires are still a dusty task. But without specialist equipment, things would be a lot worse.
When an electrician rewires a house, it is always going to be necessary, to require some plastering work. Traditionally rewiring a house is a 3 stage process.
Stage 1 – Remove the old cables, channel out walls install new switch and socket back boxes and install the new wiring. Commonly known as first fix
Stage 2 – plaster over the new wiring
Stage 3 – fit and connect all the sockets, lights, switches and the new fuse box. Commission and testing. Commonly known as second fix
This method is fine, for everyone concerned, if the house is not lived in, because the problem is that you have temporary power, until the job is complete. This presents a timing issue.
Many companies offer a plastering option, to compliment their service.
We have experimented, tried and tested this and every other method in the past, only to find the plaster usually shrinks and cracks due to poor plastering preparation and the fact that the job becomes rushed, due to the pressure of having no power. It benefits the electrician more than it benefits you. What happens when you do scrape the wall paper off, if the rest of the plaster falls off? It is a pointless waste of money at this stage. Despite how appealing it may seem.
We have the solutions, gadgets and methods to get around this, allowing us to set up for the plasterer to follow us afterwards, making plastering stage 3. This allows us to quickly proceed through the job from start to finish. Allows you to breathe between jobs. Gives you chance to prepare properly such as scraping wall paper off before plastering, as more may be required. It provides solutions to multiple problems. But most importantly allows you to function with power before moving onto the next stage.
When an electrician rewires a house. It is only the first step in the journey of returning your house back to being your home. We can help you achieve that, with the minimum amount of fuss and disruption for you and the fabric of your home. That said, you still have to crack an egg, to make an omelette.
Of course some serious packing away of belongings, movement of furniture and cleaning will be required, before, during and after the process.
Obviously it will be necessary to redecorate and paint amongst other taks, in many affected areas.
A few companies claim to offer a service, that doesn’t require plastering or redecorating afterwards. We feel it’s important to create the right expectations with our customers, by being honest and truly helping you to understand what is involved and what to expect. We certainly do not promise the impossible, at least to be able to achieve the quality, reputation and standards, that our company is built on.
